  • When handling the product, wear the latex gloves provided.
  • Wipe down all utensils, measuring tools and containers with rubbing alcohol prior to their use.
  • Keep the utensils clean and dry throughout your project

Additional safety precautions:

  • Always work with a dust mask in a well ventilated environment.
  • Do not eat, drink or smoke while working with the powders
  • Wash with soap and water after handling products
  • If you experience any discomfort or irritation while working with or wearing the powders, discontinue use immediately and wash with soap and water. If the product irritates the eyes, flush the eyes with water.

About the Ingredients

The colors which you are working with could be used directly on your skin as very bright, colorful eye shadows. They are made from natural minerals (mica, titanium dioxide, tin oxide, iron oxides).

Because the colors closely match the "true" colors of the Color Wheel (red, yellow, blue, orange, green and purple), they also are the perfect choice to create blends. You will find some examples on our Recipes page.

The TKB Trading Matte Texture Base is a good additive because: 1) It can lighten the color; 2) It can give the color better "slip" (how it feels going on) and "adhesion" (how long it stays on the skin), 3) It can make the end product less expensive.

Basic Concepts

The basic steps to making the eye shadow are simple:
  • Pick a color from our Recipe page and spoon the appropriate amounts into a zip lock bag.
  • Once all the colors are measured in, seal the zip lock bag and rub it between the palms of your hands for about a minute. Make sure that the powder is moving around in the bag.
  • When finished, open the bag and check the color. If it looks good to you, put it in one of the eye shadow jars and enjoy!

Tip: The least messy way to fill the jar is to seal the zip lock bag, snip off a bottom corner, and then squeeze the powder into the jar.

Mixing Your Own Colors

We know this can be daunting, but if you move forward with confidence, you will probably make a beautiful color, even if it isn't the exact shade you were planning on.

Here is TKB's Fail-Safe Four Step Process for matching colors. If you follow a couple of recipes on our Recipe page, you will see this process in action:

  • First, start with the "main hue" of the color you are trying to match (is this a "yellow" color? start with Lemon Drop);
  • Second, add the "secondary hue" of the color we are trying to match (is this a "warm yellow"? add Strawberry or Tangerine);
  • Third, do you need to tone down or deepen the color? Then add the "complementary color" of the main hue;
  • Finally, add any white (TKB Matte Texture Base) or black (Black Mica) to adjust the tone. (If you are making a light or pastel shade, you should reverse things up a bit and start with the TKB Matte Texture Base).

Here are the Complements
